Plums are the most significant and widely cultivated fruit in Serbia. From the plains of Vojvodina to the hills of Šumadija and all the way to southern Serbia, plums are grown throughout the country. Their presence is so deep-rooted that it is hard to imagine any part of Serbia without them. Plums hold a traditional status, with cultivation spanning generations. It can be said with certainty that plums are not just a fruit—they are a symbol of Serbian identity. Plums have laxative properties and are extremely beneficial for the proper functioning of the digestive system. The most renowned Serbian plum varieties include: Crvena Ranka, Čačanska Rodna, Čačanska Lepotica, Požegača and Stanley (widely grown).
